INTERVIEW: Buddy Holly PBS tribute show was a 'thrill' for producer Peter Asher - National Beatles | Examiner.com

Steve Marinucci , Beatles Examiner  on November 27, 2011

(Peter) Asher also had special praise for Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. “I think one of the people who surprised everybody was Patrick Stump. Fall Out Boy fans know what a good singer he is, but not really, ‘cause he’s totally amazing and has a style all his own. When he came and did ‘Everyday’ with the marimba and our curious little arrangement we came up with, people went crazy. Some people didn’t know who he was. They were going, ‘Who is that guy? God, is he good?’ And I went, ‘Yes, he is.’”

Buddy Holly Tribute Concert DVD To Support The GRAMMY Foundation | GRAMMY.org

November 21, 2011 — 3:26 pm

On Sept. 6 Songmasters released Listen To Me: Buddy Holly, a collection featuring contemporary versions of songs originally written and performed by Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Buddy Holly. The album was released in conjunction with Holly’s 75th birthday and the addition of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That same day, Songmasters held a star-studded concert featuring performances by Cobra Starship’s Victoria Asher and Gabe Saporta, Chris Isaak, Lyle Lovett, Stevie Nicks, and Patrick Stump, and celebrity guests included Michelle Brach, Shawn Colvin and Graham Nash, among others. Video tributes were played during the show with artists paying homage to Holly including Jackson Browne, Imelda May, Natalie Merchant, Train’s Pat Monahan, Keith Richards, Ringo Starr, and Brian Wilson, among others. GRAMMY Foundation Vice President Scott Goldman was acknowledged during the event in recognition of his exceptional work with the GRAMMY Foundation in supporting the development of emerging recording artists and innovators.

The concert is set to premiere on Dec. 3 on PBS, and a live DVD of the performance will be available for purchase through PBS beginning Dec. 3.

The Listen To Me: Buddy Holly album and concert DVD generate support for the GRAMMY Foundation and its GRAMMY Camp program, as well as the Songwriters Hall of Fame scholarship programs and Artists’ House Music for programs that support the development of the next generation of music makers.

Record review-Listen To Me: Buddy Holly - Toronto Music | Examiner.com

By David Voigt, Toronto Music Examiner On September 25, 2011

The real stand outs of the newer artists are Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy’s orchestral version of “Everyday” and Zooey Deschanel’s tender version of “It’s So Easy”. […]

With 16 tracks in all, not every cut on this tribute record works as well as you might hope.  However the ones that do, are pretty excellent and if you’re a fan of Buddy Holly or any of the artists mentioned on this tribute album, “Buddy Holly: Listen To Me” is worth a spot in your record collection.

Key Track: “Everyday”: Patrick Stump.

4 out of 5 stars.

“Buddy Holly: Listen To Me” is available on ITunes and at record stores across Toronto, click here for a list of some of the finer ones near you.
